Sheffield Wednesday fans after yesterday’s game.

Supporters clashed inside Burnley Miners’ Club, at around 6pm, after the two clubs fought out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

Today, Lancashire Police said no arrests had been made as a result of the violence at the Plumbe Street venue, where a window was smashed during the confrontation.

Away fans have claimed that one of their number was left with a serious leg injury but this could not be confirmed by the emergency services.

Rival fans have blamed each other for initially starting the trouble, which saw several officers covering the Championship game diverted along Harry Potts Way and Yorkshire Street.

The venue’s staff confirmed that a ‘fracas’ did take place inside the club but no officials were available for comment today.

Inspector Duncan Arthur, of Burnley Police, said: “Police attended an incident involving Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley fans, but no arrests have been made as yet.

“I don’t know how many people were involved but there was some damage to the inside of the club.

“It happened in the early evening, just after 6pm.”
