Pompey Shirter attacked by Newport fans

A POMPEY supporter who suffered from a fractured skull when he was attacked after the club’s defeat to Newport County has thanked fellow fans for their support.

Harry Davis had 10 stitches after football fans clashed following the game at Fratton Park on Saturday afternoon. He spent the weekend in Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham following the incident at Fratton rail station.

British Transport Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of grevious bodily harm and has been bailed until Wednesday, October 1.

Meanwhile, Hampshire Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Newport has been charged with being drunk and disorderly after violence flared before and after the match.

Harry had a visit from Pompey’s Chief Executive Mark Catlin yesterday. On his Twitter feed, just after midnight yesterday, Harry said: ‘10 stitches and a fractured skull later and I’m being given a bed and put under watch for 24 hours. Thanks everyone for the support.’

Reports on social media suggest a young girl was caught up and struck with a bottle from Newport fans.
